Perseteruan antara GeoHot dengan Sony harus berakhir dengan perjanjian yang mengharuskan hacker tersebut tidak lagi mengoprek semua produk Sony, terutama PlayStation 3. Namun pria dengan nama asli George Hotz tetap bersikeras bahwa aksinya tidak melanggar hukum.
Menurut Hotz, jika seseorang sudah membeli suatu produk maka ia boleh memperlakukannya dengan bebas, bahkan jika ingin merusaknya sekali pun. Itulah yang dilakukan GeoHot terhadap PS3, dia menciptakan aplikasi agar pengguna bisa menginstal sofware apa pun di dalam konsol tersebut.
"Takkan ada niat bagi saya untuk membuat konsumen mengalami masalah, serta membuat pembajakan lebih mudah. Saya senang tuntutan ini sudah berakhir," paparnya usai persidangan beberapa waktu lalu.
Nah, perjanjian yang mengharuskan GeoHot untuk tidak lagi mengoprek produk Sony pun terpaksa harus ia setujui. Alhasil, pria yang juga membobol iPhone itu menyerukan pada masyarakat agar memboikot seluruh produk Sony.
"Sejak 11 April 2011 saya bergabung dengan gerakan Sony boycott. Saya tidak akan pernah membeli produk Sony lagi dan saya harap Anda melakukan hal yang sama," tulis GeoHot melalui blog pribadinya
