Studi peneliti Imperial College London (ICL) menyediakan bukti geologis pertama yang mendukung teori sebelumnya menyatakan bagaimana batu-batu di awal pembentukan tata surya terbentuk.
Riset ini juga mendukung gagasan materi keras pertama di tata surya ini sangat rapuh dan berpori seperti permen kapas. Kemudian, batu ini menjadi makin kompak selama masa turbulensi ekstrim dan membentuk batu yang lebih keras untuk membangun blok di planet-planet seperti Bumi.
“Studi kami mayakinkan kami, batu karbon kondrit awal terbentuk akibat turbelensi nebula yang melewatinya miliaran tahun silam,” kata Phil Bland dari Fakultas Sains Bumi ICL.
Peneliti menganalisa fragmen asteroid yang dikenal sebagai meteorit karbon kondrit dari sabuk asteroid Yupiter dan Mars. Awalnya, meteorit ini terbentuk di saat sistem tata surya baru saja terbentuk ketika artikel debu mikroskopik saling bertabrakan dan menyatu.
Peneliti menganalisa jumlah kompresi yang dialami batu yang akan memberi petunjuk struktur rapuh batu awal.
“Menariknya, batu ini memungkinkan kita merekonstruksi akresi dan dampak sejarah materi paling primitif tata surya ini secara detail,” tutupnya.
