Fosil yang ditemukan itu merupakan jenis ankylosaurus, yaitu dinosaurus pemakan tanaman dengan tungkai yang kuat serta ekor seperti pemukul kayu.
Ankylosaurus yang ditemukan itu diperkirakan memiliki panjang 5 meter dan lebar 2 meter. "Cukup menakjubkan karena fosil ini masih dalam kondisi bagus. Ini juga merupakan (fosil) dinosaurus lengkap yang pertama kali dimiliki propinsi ini," lanjut Henderson.
Seorang pekerja Suncor Energy menemukan fosil itu, Rabu (23/3/2011) waktu setempat, saat dirinya tengah membersihkan tanah sebelum bekerja. Dia langsung menghentikan pekerjaannya dan memberi kesempatan kepada para ilmuwan untuk memindahkan fosil itu dan mengirimnya ke museum Royal Tyrell.
Fosil penting terakhir yang ditemukan di utara Alberta adalah reptil raksasa yang disebut ichthyosaurus. Fosil itu ditemukan di dekat Fort McMurray, 10 tahun lalu.
